When Jim Reid Vehicle Sales first opened its doors on the 1st of February 2003, we started with just 12 carefully selected vehicles and a bold vision: to revolutionise the used car-buying experience in Northeast Scotland. Back then, Jim and his devoted wife Gail had to remortgage their home to make their business dream a reality.
Our journey began with a simple mission to offer car buyers in Aberdeenshire and beyond an alternative to impersonal large franchises. We recognised that buying a car in Aberdeen had become a bit too impersonal, instead dominated by big franchises where customers often felt like just another number.
We wanted to change that, and we like to think we have! We believed then, as we do now, that purchasing a vehicle should be an enjoyable, pressure-free experience guided by genuine care and expertise.
Today, we’ve grown into one of Scotland’s most trusted independent dealerships, serving customers across the entire United Kingdom with the same family values and dedication that marked our humble beginnings.
One of our proudest moments came in 2009 when we moved to our current site in Kintore at Craigearn Business Park where we also opened our Service Centre. It wasn’t just about growing bigger – it was about serving you better. Now we could take care of your car through its entire journey with you, from the day you drive it home to every service thereafter.
This significant milestone allowed us to provide a customer-first approach across the entire vehicle ownership journey, from initial purchase through to maintenance. We’re proud to say that our service team brings the same commitment to excellence that has defined our sales operation from day one.
Over the years, our dedication to exceptional service has earned us numerous national accolades. While we’re honoured by these industry recognitions, our true measure of success comes from the trust our customers place in us. The fact that most of our business comes from repeat customers speaks volumes about our commitment to doing things differently.
Scotland Loves Local High Street Hero for the North East Award –

CAR Star Award from the SMTA –
We were delighted to be recipients of the CAR Star Award (which stands for Community Activity Recognition) at the Scottish Motor Trade Association in October 2024. Pictured above is Jim Reid’s son, Liam, who proudly collected the award at a ceremony in Glasgow.

In November 2022, we were highly commended for Used Car Dealership of the Year (up to 50 Cars) at the annual Used Car Awards organised by Car Dealer Magazine.

Well where do I start…….. moving from Ireland in early 2023 Philip found himself looking for a little part time job to help meet new people and to help top up the piggy bank so he started with us in February 2023 and all we can say……. it’s been an absolute blast.
You will always hear Philip before you see him as he is a non stop chatter box but has a heart of gold and a golden personality to go along with it.
His enthusiasm for life is amazing and his fitness level is fantastic making him one of the mos loved members of Team Reid.

Gary is our very own handy man & driver who joined the team in 2018.
Splitting his time between the Sales & Service Centre Gary is a Jack of all trades. Fuelling cars one minute to cutting the grass the next. He can turn his hand to anything and everything and moans about nothing.
You will always find Gary with a smile on his face and a willingness to help anyone one of the most likeable people you will ever meet.
Gary is also our Community Superstar, helping out the Kintore Community with refurbishing benches, painting, weeding and cleaning. It’s all in a day’s work for Gary.
Ian Paterson
Part Time Car Cleaner
Ian first started with us back in 2019 as he was looking for a part time job to top up his income. Jim first met Ian when he stopped him whilst he was picking up litter as his part of his main job with Aberdeenshire Council in Kintore. Jim was very impressed with Ian’s attitude and focus towards his work and offered a job on the spot. Although Ian didn’t accept straight away he eventually accepted and has been part of Team Reid ever since.
You will see Ian every Wednesday morning in our sales yard ensuring all the cars are dirt and dust free.
